Gravity is a collection of 17 looks that examines the architecture of garments on the body. Inspired by the sky, concrete overpasses, highways, and silhouettes seen in casual women’s business attire, it is a body of work that aims to abstractly address the tension between ground and atmosphere, much like the tension that exists between clothing and the figure. Details like pockets, collars and necklines are manipulated to bring a fresh element to familiar attributes, and bright, solid colors seek solace in muted tones. Gravity brings its weight to the wearer and evokes a sense of silence akin to a long car ride. This collection was showcased in a one-night fashion event held at the Maryland Institute College of Art’s Main Building on April 29th, 2017.
